01 Overview & Summary
The Number Guessing Game is a self-contained, offline-friendly browser game built with pure HTML, CSS and vanilla JavaScript. It was designed with a privacy-first approach: the game does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any personal information.
✅
The short version: Everything you enter stays on your device. There is no server, no account, no analytics, no advertising, and no third-party tracking. You can clear all saved data at any time with a single click.
This policy explains exactly what is stored, where it lives, how long it lasts, and how you remain in control.
02 Information We Collect
We do not operate any backend service, and we do not receive any data from you. However, the game may store the following items locally in your own browser so that your progress and preferences survive a page refresh:
Data stored locally by the game
DataPurposeRequired?Player namePersonalises messages and labels your high scores. You choose it freely.OptionalStatisticsGames played, wins, losses, streaks, best score, fastest win, per-difficulty breakdown.OptionalHigh scoresYour best score per difficulty, with name, date, attempts and time taken.OptionalPreferencesTheme (dark/light), sound on/off, high-contrast mode, reduced-motion setting.OptionalLast used settingsMost recent difficulty and custom range, so the game resumes your setup.Optional
None of these items are ever sent to us or to anyone else. They exist solely inside your browser's localStorage under the key numGuessGame.v1.
03 How Your Data Is Stored
All information is stored using the browser's built-in Web Storage API (specifically localStorage). This is a standard, sandboxed storage mechanism that is:
- Local — stored on your device only, not on any remote server.
- Origin-bound — accessible only to pages served from the same origin as the game.
- Persistent — remains until you clear it, unless your browser is in private/incognito mode.
- Plain text — readable by you at any time via your browser's developer tools.
ℹ️
Because storage is local, the data does not follow you across devices or browsers. If you play the game on another device, you start fresh there — and that's by design.
04 Local Storage in Detail
The game saves a single JSON object under one key. Its structure is approximately:
KeyContentsnumGuessGame.v1Player name, theme, sound, high-contrast flag, reduced-motion flag, aggregate statistics, high scores per difficulty, last difficulty, and last custom range.
What is not stored
- No IP address, geolocation, device fingerprint, or user-agent string.
- No email address, phone number, or any account credentials.
- No browsing history, keystroke logs, or behaviour analytics.
- No secret numbers from past rounds — they exist only in memory during play and are discarded afterwards.
How long it lasts
Data persists until you delete it, clear your browser storage, or your browser evicts it under storage pressure. There is no expiry date set by the game.
05 No Tracking, No Ads, No Cookies
This game deliberately avoids common web tracking practices:
PracticeUsed?HTTP cookiesNoAnalytics scripts (e.g. Google Analytics)NoAdvertising networks or pixelsNoFingerprinting or device identificationNoSocial media trackersNoServer-side logging of your activityNoLocal storage for preferences & scoresYes (local only)
Because the game runs entirely client-side, there is no mechanism by which your gameplay could be observed remotely. Network requests are limited to loading the page and its web fonts (see section 6).
06 Third-Party Services
The game loads its typography from Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com). When your browser requests those font files, Google may receive your IP address and basic request headers as part of serving the fonts. This is standard for any site using Google Fonts.
⚠️
If you prefer to avoid this request entirely, you can block Google Fonts with a browser extension or content blocker — the game will still work, falling back to your system fonts.
Apart from that font request, the game makes no outbound network calls. There are no CDNs for scripts, no remote APIs, and no embedded third-party widgets.
07 Your Rights & Controls
Because all data lives on your device, you have complete and immediate control over it. You can:
- View it — open your browser's DevTools → Application → Local Storage.
- Edit it — modify or remove individual values directly if you wish.
- Delete it — use the in-game Reset Statistics button or the Clear all saved data link in the footer.
- Prevent it — play in private/incognito mode, where nothing persists after the tab closes.
- Refuse it — simply don't enter a name; the game will use "Guest" and store nothing personal.
No formal data-access request is necessary, because we never hold your data in the first place. There is nothing for us to retrieve, export, or erase on our side.
08 Deleting Your Data
There are three ways to erase everything the game has stored:
- In-game (recommended): click “Clear all saved data” in the footer of the game. This wipes the numGuessGame.v1 key and reloads the page.
- Reset stats only: click “Reset Statistics” to remove statistics and high scores while keeping your name and preferences.
- Browser-level: clear site data for this page via your browser's settings (usually under Privacy → Cookies and Site Data).
Deletion is immediate and irreversible — there is no backup copy anywhere.
09 Children's Privacy
The game is suitable for all ages and is designed to be safe for children. It does not require registration, does not collect personal information, and contains no advertising or external communication features.
The only optional personal detail is a display name, which is stored locally and never transmitted. We do not knowingly collect any information from children — or from anyone — because no information is collected at all.
10 Security
Since no data leaves your device, the primary security consideration is the security of your own browser and device. Local storage is protected by the browser's same-origin policy, meaning other websites cannot read this game's stored data.
ℹ️
Local storage is not encrypted. On a shared or public computer, anyone with access to the browser profile could view the stored name and scores. Use private browsing or clear the data afterwards if this matters to you.
11 Changes to This Policy
If this policy is updated — for example, if a new feature changes how data is handled — the revised version will be published on this page with an updated “Last updated” date at the top.
Because the game stores no contact information, we cannot notify you directly of changes. We recommend checking this page occasionally if you care about the details. Continued use of the game after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
12 Contact
This game is a standalone, self-hosted project with no company or service operator behind it. If you have questions about this policy, the most practical route is to review the game's source code — it is a single, readable HTML file with no obfuscation and no hidden network activity.
You can verify every claim in this policy by opening the file in a text editor and searching for localStorage, fetch, XMLHttpRequest, or cookie. You will find no outbound data transmission of any kind.
🔍
Transparency tip: open your browser's Network tab while playing. Aside from the initial page and font loads, you should see no requests at all.
